Spiritual Gifts

Identify and Use them Through the P.R.I.Z.M. of God’s Grace

For many years, spiritual gifts were a topic I overlooked and misunderstood. Sometimes I even would tell others, “Don’t stress about them! You can serve the Lord, just serve with love and trust Him!” Perhaps you, like I, thought spiritual gifts really didn’t make a difference. I could not have been more mistaken!

The matter of spiritual gifts fit into a bigger picture! They are a part of the design of the Christ for the church, both locally and globally. There are no “extra” or “insignificant” gifts, and the Bible clearly emphasises their value in the health, maturity and growth of the Body of Christ, that is, His church.

A quote from the book underlines the value and the joy of identifying and using your spiritual gifts: “Christians dare not ignore the key role that spiritual gifts play in the health of the spiritual life of a believer. The proper use of gifts is commanded in the Bible. The Apostle Paul wrote, “Do not neglect the spiritual gift within you” (1 Tim. 4:14a). Be sure you know what gifts you have, because every believer will answer to the Lord Jesus Christ for what they did with those gifts. We are commanded to “…be of sound judgement and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer. Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another” (1 Peter 4:7a-8b). The Scriptures also command us to minister to one another “as good stewards of the manifold grace of God” (1 Pet. 4:10 ). We are ALL stewards of God’s rich, abiding, enabling grace and demonstrate it by using our spiritual gifts.”
